ultraviolet

Ultraviolet (UV) light is electromagnetic raiation with a wavelength shorter than that of visible light, but longer than soft X-rays. It is so named because the spectrum consists of electromagnetic waves with frequencies higher than those that humans identify as the color violet.

Trivia about ultraviolet

  • Germicidal lamps emit these rays
  • In weather forecasting, the UV index refers to the intensity of this type of radiation
  • Quartz is more effective than glass for making lenses for this kind of light, UV for short
  • UVA, UVB & UVC are the 3 types of this radiation contained in sunshine
  • O-type stars are hot, massive blue stars that radiate strongly in this part of the spectrum from 10 to 400 nanometers
  • To metabolize calcium & have strong bones, iguanas need this type of radiation, provided by a special light
  • Sunlight rays:UV
  • Vitamin D is activated when the skin is exposed to this radiation
